Russell J. Newman, CIPM, is a seasoned operations executive with more than two decades of experience across the asset and wealth management industry with a proven track record of building scalable operating models, strengthening governance and control environments, and aligning people, process and technology to support complex investment strategies across institutional and retail platforms.

Russell currently serves as Managing Director – Operations at Great Lakes Advisors, where he joined the firm in April 2026. In this role, he is responsible for the strategic oversight of the firm’s operations function and serves as a member of both the Management and Operating Committees. Prior to joining Great Lakes Advisors, Russell worked at Mercer Sentinel, specializing in conducting operational due diligence and operational risk assessments on behalf of institutional investors across traditional, hedge fund, private equity, private credit, interval funds and digital asset managers. Previously, Russell served as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Rothschild & Co Asset Management US Inc., where he led a full operational platform transformation from an on-premise infrastructure to an outsourced operating model designed to enhance efficiency, scalability, redundancy, and risk management capabilities.

Throughout his career, he has also held senior operational and performance leadership roles at TimesSquare Capital Management, EMS Capital, L.P., Hawkstone Capital, Bear Stearns Asset Management, Elliott Management, and PwC. Russell has an MBA from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College as well as dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting, Finance, and Operations Management from University of Delaware. He holds the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM). He is a frequent industry speaker, advisory board member, and thought leader on operations, data, technology, operational risk management and human capital.
